The FDA vs WADA Distinction
FDA Category 1 status means licensed compounding pharmacies can legally prepare BPC-157 with a physician prescription. It says nothing about whether the compound is permitted in competitive sports. WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and its affiliated national organizations maintain a separate prohibited list that is independent of FDA regulatory status.
BPC-157 WADA Status in 2026
BPC-157 remains on the WADA S0 Prohibited List (Non-Approved Substances) as of 2026, despite the February FDA reclassification. S0 substances are prohibited both in and out of competition. Athletes subject to WADA-compliant anti-doping programs risk disqualification regardless of whether they have a physician prescription.
Which Peptides Are WADA Permitted
The WADA prohibited list is updated annually and athletes should consult the most current version. Some peptides used in longevity medicine are not on the prohibited list โ but this varies by compound and changes over time. Athletes should check the current WADA list and consult their sport’s anti-doping authority before starting any peptide protocol.
Non-Competitive Athletes
For athletes who are not subject to anti-doping testing, the WADA list is not relevant. The question is whether physician-supervised peptide therapy is appropriate for your health goals โ a clinical question answered by your physician based on your individual situation.
